Our take

Express, a mall retailer since 1980 that emerged from a 2024 bankruptcy under new owners, builds its chino line around the Hyper Stretch fabric with a knit Comfort Waist that flexes at the waistband. The slim version is the anchor of the chino page and is well reviewed by on-site owners. Independent editorial coverage is thin; a review of an earlier Express stretch chino found it looked and felt like a real cotton chino rather than a shiny synthetic, but the current Hyper Stretch version has not drawn the same depth of outside review.

Material

Cotton-blend twill with polyester and elastane for the stretch, plus a knit flex waistband; an editorial review of an earlier Express stretch chino measured it at roughly two-thirds cotton with polyester and spandex making up the rest.

Fit

Sold in skinny, slim, athletic slim, straight and relaxed cuts at a mid rise; the slim has a tapered leg with slanted front pockets. On-site owners rate the fit highly, and a reviewer of an earlier Express stretch chino called the cut slim but not restrictive.

Quality

The fabric draws praise for stretch and comfort in owner reviews. Long-term durability reporting from independent sources is sparse, and a heavily elasticized twill is not built for hard wear the way an all-cotton chino is, so expect comfort rather than longevity to be the selling point.
