The verdict

Budget-friendly entry to the Cotopaxi lineup; good value if the fit suits your frame.

Fit

Ambato is a lightweight casual line. The 4-inch inseam signals a short, fitted cut; typical of Cotopaxi's sizing, expect a snug thigh and mid-rise.

Quality

At $30, expect functional synthetic fabrics and standard seaming, not premium construction. Durable for light wear and seasonal use.

Price check

Budget pricing—some of the cheapest Cotopaxi offers. Quality matches the tier: solid basics without technical bells or premium materials.

Best for

Women seeking affordable Cotopaxi basics for casual summer wear, gym, or travel packing when durability matters less than price.

Care

Machine-wash cold and hang-dry to extend the life of budget synthetics.

What owners report about Cotopaxi shorts

Reviewers who tested Cotopaxi's shorts describe light, quick-drying recycled-nylon fabric that handles water well — one tester's pair dried completely in under 30 minutes after full submersion. They read as one-pair-does-everything shorts for day hikes, swimming, and casual wear rather than rugged trail gear: the thinner material can snag or fade on high-impact terrain, and the built-in mesh liner drew chafing complaints on longer hikes in hot weather. A tester of the women's Vamos style reported all-day comfort and never needing to adjust the shorts mid-hike.

Strengths: Fast-drying, swim-ready shorts that reviewers rate highly for short hikes, water days, and casual wear in one garment.
Watch out for: The built-in mesh liner is the recurring complaint — reviewers report chafing on longer hot-weather wear — and the light fabric isn't rated for rugged, multi-day use.
Sizing: Reviewers describe the Brinco cut as a slim fit with a short inseam that may not suit larger builds.
