The verdict

A sensible gym or casual short at a price that matches the execution.

Fit

Classic mesh athletic cut runs true to size; the 9" inseam works for active wear or casual layering.

Quality

Champion's basic mesh line is straightforward polyester construction typical of the brand's entry-tier active wear—adequate for weekly gym sessions or summer wear, not built for years of heavy use.

Price check

At $18.75, you get honest basics. Fair for the tier; the brand tax is minimal here.

Best for

Anyone looking for affordable, no-fuss shorts for workouts or casual summer wear.

Care

Machine wash cold and tumble dry; synthetic mesh is durable if you skip the dryer on permanent press.

What owners report about Champion shorts

Owners are broadly positive on comfort for the price. Zappos reviewers on the 7-inch hybrid short praise the fabric as thin, light, and comfortable, and varsity-short buyers describe them as light and breathable with good workmanship. Cotton gym short buyers like the soft cotton and call them a good value. Walmart reviewers are more split on the budget styles, with some reporting the material feels thinner than it used to and the elastic wearing out within a year or two of light use.

Strengths: Lightweight, breathable, comfortable athletic shorts that most owners consider good value at their low price.
Watch out for: Recurring complaints on the cheaper styles are thin material and elastic that gives out after a year or two of wear.
Sizing: Most reviewers report the shorts fit true to size, though some say certain styles run large and one hybrid-short buyer found them shorter than expected.
